Vincent N."Chilly" D'Antonio, 92, of Marlborough, died peacefully Oct. 15, 2013 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law surrounded by his loved ones. He was the husband of the late Jennie (Zilembo) D'Antonio, who died in 1973, and Ruth (Carlson) D'Antonio, who died in 1997.
He was the son of the late Angelo and Antoinette (Marseglia) D'Antonio of Milford. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael D'Antonio of Framingham; and his sisters, Mary Valorie Garland, Nancy DeLuzio and Lucy DiAntonio, all of Milford.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Benway and her husband Harold "Spunky" Benway and his son, Michael D'Antonio and his wife Denise of Marlborough. He was the proud grandfather of Jay Benway and wife Lona of Marlborough, Daniel Benway and wife Kristin of Boylston, Jennifer Cotter and husband Tom of Northborough and Bree and Bryan D'Antonio of Marlborough. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony and Andrew Benway, Cameron, Cole, Rachel and Ella Rose Benway and Zachary, Benjamin and Lauren Cotter.
Born on May 19, 1921 he attended schools in Milford, and graduated from Milford High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the outbreak of World War II in 1942. He trained as a torpedo specialist and later was tapped to be a cook. As a Ship Cook Second Class, he served aboard the USS Windigo until his discharge in 1945. His stations included Great Exuma, Bahamas and Guantanamo Bay Cuba.
Following his military service, he returned to Marlborough and for several years operated Tony's Diner at Monument Square together with his brother in-law Anthony DiAntonio and later Joe DiAntonio. He later worked at Fitzgibbons Company, a major producer of dress raincoat wear. Together with his late brother Michael, they founded their own raincoat company known as Danton Fashion in Framingham, which they operated for 38 years. He later worked at Plaza Liquors in Marlborough.
Over the course of his life, he sang and played the guitar. His brother Michael accompanied him on the accordion, and together they entertained at such places as the former Monticello Nightclub and other local clubs for weddings and social events. His favorite pastimes included golf, woodworking, trips to Foxwoods and faithfully following New England sports.He will be remembered for his love of family, enthusiastic personality and optimistic approach to life.
Funeral services were private and under the direction of the Slattery Funeral Home Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough.
