Community Remembers Thomas Ryan Jr.
Thomas was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Joseph K. Taussig, which took part in the blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Thomas H. Ryan Jr., 75, of Berlin and Falmouth, died on Wednesday, Dec. 25 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lynn (Edmonston) Ryan of Berlin.
Thomas was born in Lowell, the son of the late Thomas and Roberta E. (Lawson) Ryan. He was raised in Marlborough, where he attended the local schools and was a 1957 graduate of Marlborough High School.

He was employed as a lineman and later an inspector by Verizon for many years until his retirement in 1996. He has resided in Berlin the past 45 years, and was a former Berlin Youth Soccer and baseball coach. Thomas always looked forward to spending time at their summer home in Falmouth and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Saint Joseph the Good Provider Parish in Berlin.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children, Thomas H. Ryan and his wife Debora of Southbridge, Tracy Ryan-Doherty and her husband Michael of Northborough and Timothy H. Ryan of Collegeville, Pa. He is also survived by his brother, John P. Ryan of Hudson; his three grandchildren, Monica Doherty, Owen Ryan and Brayden Ryan; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert F. Ryan and James L. Ryan.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 10 a.m. in Saint Joseph the Good Provider Church, 52 West St. (Route 62), Berlin. Burial will follow in North Cemetery, Berlin. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Friday, Jan. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home Inc. 50 Central St., Hudson, MA 01749.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thomas may be made to: Berlin Youth Soccer, C/O Diedre Slate, 68 Village Court, Berlin, MA 01503.
