I am writing to request support for renovating Lincoln Street School.
The issue will be brought up at town meeting on April 28, and it is an issue that I believe should be important to all Northborough residents.
Lincoln Street School has served us well, but it's aging, and needs a facelift. The renovations are needed. For anyone who hasn't visited the school lately, I'd encourage you to visit, and see for yourself. The library alone is seriously outdated, and our children deserve better if we want them to be able to compete in the workplace going forward.
As a REALTOR, I can say that one of the biggest draws to Northborough is our great school system. In 1996, I purchased my first home on Liberty Drive in Assabet Hill. At the time, these homes were new construction homes, with prices starting at $243,900. Today, homes on Liberty, Wheelwright, and Patriot Drive, sell for more than double that price.
Many other Northborough homeowners have also seen significant property value appreciations over the last 15-20 years. As a whole, Northborough property values have held their own, even with the horrible recession we had only a few years ago. And the reason for this, in my opinion, has a lot to do with our schools.
We've invested when necessary, and the results have paid off. But buildings don't last forever. They need upkeep, and renovations, as they get older. And the time to renovate Lincoln Street has arrived. Making this investment is important when it comes to providing the education and future opportunities we want for our children going forward.
That is why I hope Northborough homeowners will join me by supporting the Lincoln Street renovation project.
