The Sun and the Mountain

Thought – July 18, 2014

I don’t know about you, but there have been so many times in my life, when I think I know where I want to go and what I want to do and then “it” happens.  I see something, it gets my inner thought spinning, and my way of how I want to plan the rest of my life takes on a whole new and different meaning.

Has this ever happened to you?  Well, “it” got today me.  I saw a picture of the sun coming up over the mountains, taken from a jet plane over France, by someone I knew, and it made me realize how little humans are in comparison to this majestic sunrise and yet, we think we are so powerful.

I think it is safe to say that none of us, no matter what we have accomplished in our lives will ever come close to being able to compare ourselves to the power we see behind the creation of the sun and the mountains. Suddenly, my own personal goals I had set out to achieve seemed secondary to anything I may have planned and at this point they did not seem to matter.  The goals for my new day could wait as I had something deeper to think about.

The Sun and the Mountain

In an airplane flying over the mountains in France,

I turned to look out the window so that if by chance,

I could catch the sun; appearing in the sky,

And I saw and look; there it was shining light on what was left of a darkened night.

As the bright golden ball began casting it rays,

The words in my head were forming thoughts I wanted to say,

That would shed some light on my the goals I set for today,

For at this moment I was seeing my life in a different way.

Here I was, a passenger on a powerful jet plane,

But this was nothing compared to the powerful sun, its warmth, its rays.

The magnificent mountain below me began talking to the sun;

Both had been here for perhaps thousands of years and then some.

How little I felt, yet I was inspired,

To acknowledge to myself that there was someone much higher.

And in all his wisdom he created such a radiant morning show,

For such a lowly person like me to see when I opened my eyes; the sun and the mountain below.

I knew that from this moment on I would make better choices in life,

The depths of my heart had awakened to a greater insight.

Just as every day the sun will come up and there will be day and night,

If I remember this morning’s display of power, what was behind the power, well, it would help me to want to do what was right.

How small the powerful plane looked in the sky,

As the mountain and the sun it was passing by,

It made me thankful for all I had been given,

I was happy to have awakened when the sun was coming up, to see just a wonderful morning vision.

I thank you Ginger Dawn for granting me permission to post your lovely photograph.  And, for allowing me to imagine what may have been going through your mind as you were drawn to snap this picture.
