Tercentenary Sign

This historical marker on Route 20 in Northborough is one for about 300 installed by the Commonwealth in 1930.  They were to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the official founding of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.  In 1630, John Endicott succeeded in securing a charter from the King to form a local government, separated from Plymouth colony and led by a crown-appointed governor centered around Salem Massachusetts.  The Northborough sign describes the Indian attack in 1707 that resulted in the death of Mary Goodnow.  The Massachusetts Department of Transportation installed this new sign in October 2013 to replace the one that was in disrepair.
