Got shelf-stable milk?

The Northborough Food Pantry welcomes donations of it.

"We always need shelf-stable milk," Co-Director Ann Taggart said Friday.

"We never get enough of that. People use it to cook with."

On the whole, the food pantry, in the lower level of the Northborough Town Hall Offices, is "in pretty good shape because of the Scout food drive," said Taggart, who is co-director with Sarah Rothery.

"We had bare shelves until recently. That has set us up nicely for the holidays," she said.

"It's a huge relief. And it's one of the reasons I think the Scouts time it in November every year."

Northborough Boy, Cub and Girl Scouts brought more than 9,200 items to the Northborough Food Pantry earlier this month, according to the food pantry's Facebook page.

The students went door to door collecting the donations during the Scouting for Food campaign.

The food pantry is open from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The food pantry is serving "80 families a week now. A year ago, we were doing 65. The demand has gone way up," Taggart said.

"During the holidays, things are pretty good because of the Scout food drive, and people are aware during the holidays. It's the summer months that we are in really tough straights," she said.

"Our greatest need is space."
