Helping Hands Coat, Food Drives See Strong Community Support

Friday, about 25 volunteers prepared 100 boxes of Thanksgiving fixings for families, and more than 62 bags for seniors and singles, said Marcia Roman, one of the drives' leaders.

Boxes and bags of donated non-perishables, and tables of gently used children's winter clothes, filled the St. Bernadette School's Charbonneau Activity Center on Friday.

Saturday, volunteers for the Northborough Helping Hands Association will distribute the donations to Northborough residents in need.

The association, in conjunction with the Northborough Moms and Tots Organization, conducted the fifth annual coat and winter boot drive, which ended Nov. 20.

"It's a true community event," noted Roman, who led the drives with Heather Capes, Tess Murphy and Kelly Scangas.

"Because it's the coming together of different factions of the community: organizations, individual people, the schools. Everybody contributes a piece of what goes into the box."
