The Northborough Historical Society will hold its next monthly meeting on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 7:30PM. The evening’s program will be, “Tobias Lear, Secretary to George Washington” presented by Dr. Brad Nutting.
Dr. Nutting will portray in costume Tobias Lear (1762-1816), secretary to George Washington, in 3 main parts: Lear’s role as Washington’s private secretary prior to 1789, his varied functions as first presidential chief of staff (1789-1793), and his checkered and ultimately tragic career which followed. Lear orchestrated Washington’s good will tour of New England which passed through Northborough on the Boston Post Road in October 1789.
Dr. Nutting is Emeritus Professor of History at Framingham State University.
Meetings are held at the Historical Society building, 50 Main Street (corner of Main and School Streets) in Northborough. There is no charge to attend. All are welcome.
