Selectman Hutchins Won't Seek Second Term

Nomination papers for the ballot will be available starting next Tuesday, Jan. 21, Town Clerk Andrew Dowd has said.

Selectman Aaron Hutchins won't seek a second three-year term at the May 12 annual town election.

"I am satisfied that my continued presence on the board is unnecessary," Hutchins said Wednesday in a press release.

"I did not and do not have any personal agenda. Having thoroughly examined and been involved with the development of three budget cycles, I am persuaded that Northborough is fiscally sound and that its established policies are correct.

"Recent decisions made by the planning board and the zoning board of appeals have been shown to have far greater immediate impact on Northborough citizens than any decision made by the board of selectmen. If I desired future elected or appointed service in the town, it seems evident that those boards would provide me with a better forum for making a contribution."

Nomination papers for the ballot will be available starting next Tuesday, Jan. 21, Town Clerk Andrew Dowd has said.

Two three-year terms on the board of selectmen are among the seats on the ballot.

Vice Chairman Dawn Rand is also up for re-election.

Hutchins was elected to the board in 2011, when he defeated Scott Mahoney.

"I am grateful to the administration and my fellow board members for their collegiality and training," Hutchins said.

"I very much enjoyed having the opportunity to educate myself on the policies and procedures of local government. It is my hope that Northborough citizens will elect in my place an individual willing to respect the input of the management team, an individual willing to listen to the issues presented in order to make an informed decision, and an individual who has Northborough's best interests at heart."
