Inspired by the documentary "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead," — and pretty much feeling fat, sick and nearly dead — I embarked on a 10-day juice fast starting on Monday, Feb. 11.
That means I am having nothing but water, and anything we can juice with our juicer.
The documentary centers around an Australian guy who is sick of himself. He's successful, but has lived years of gluttony, which as taken its toll. He heads to America to fast for 60 days, with a crew filming his journey. His success, and the people he touches, are an inspiration. So much so that my partner and I bought a juicer off of Amazon within minutes of the documentary ending.
We did our research, but as with anything, there were sites and blogs that would suggest this is the best thing one could do for his or her body, and then others who said it is a stupid gimmick. Some said it made them downright sick.
We opted to believe the people who wrote that they had never felt better and lost a ton of weight.
On day one, my recipes consisted of celery, tangelo, kale and carrot for breakfast; kale, carrot, cucumber, celery, beets, chia seeds for lunch; and tomato, kale, parsley, garlic and carrots for dinner.
I must say, none of these recipes should go in the "Yummiest Juice Recipes of All Time" book. They were tolerable, but we're struggling with ratios, and knowing what fruits and veggies will complement one another.
