Tavern in the Square Coming to Main Street

The owners plan to bring 80 to 100 jobs to Northborough.

A Boston-area restaurant brand plans to make $750,000 in renovations to the former Sea Dog Steak and Ale on Main Street.

Tavern in the Square also would "create 80 to 100 jobs" at that location, 318 Main St., attorney Karen Simao told selectmen Monday night.

Selectmen approved an all-alcoholic beverages restaurant license for Tavern in the Square Northborough LLC.

Majority interest holder Giuseppe Arcari said he hopes construction starts in early November, and that the restaurant will open at the end of January or early February.

Simao said the Northborough restaurant is part of an effort to expand the Tavern in the Square brand. Northborough is "one of a few different locations that are being launched right now," she said.

The owners plan to make "substantial renovations" totaling $750,000 "to really freshen up the place and make it consistent with the Tavern on the Square brand," she said.

Tavern in the Square is "very much intended to be the local restaurant where families, individuals, can go in, have a reasonable meal, good food, good environment," Simao said.

Interest holder and proposed manager Stephen DeSousa said the restaurant will be "very active in the community" with charitable donations, and "employ people from the area to help us build the restaurant."
