State's Apple Season Ripens Early

Pair of Northborough farms among the state's roughly 369 apple farms.

Fans of apples grown in Massachusetts got a green light Thursday  -- early this year.

The state's apple season has started early, and "apple orchards have a good crop of apples perfect for picking and some growers are reporting above average fruit size this fall," the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources said in a press release.

Northborough has a pair of Massachusetts' roughly 369 apple farms, according to the Massgrown Map on Mass.gov.

At Davidian Brothers Farm, at 500 Church St., "the products you find here represent our more than 250 acres of rich farm land located just up the road on Ball Hill, according to the farm's website.

And Tougias Family Farm, at 234 Ball St., offers more than 20 varieties of apples over the season, which ends in mid-October, according to the farm's website.
