Someone has claimed standing with the former R & T Furniture building, and is "in the process of redeeming it," Town Administrator John Coderre says.

Coderre told selectmen Monday night that the parties stepped forward as Northborough has gone through the foreclosure process on the site, at 40 West Main St.

Town officials want those people "to secure the structure," Coderre said.

In September, Selectmen Chairman Leslie Rutan expressed concern about the building's condition.

Monday night, she said that "it still looks bad. It's obviously still an eyesore."

This is good newes for our town center. The town folks will be following the progress on what the new owners intend on upgrading this site.

Good. This has been a safety issue as well.

Perhaps the future site of the A1A car wash.

Can you imagine the traffic jam in the center if the car wash was put so close to route 20 / Church St intersection. Yes a car wash would be nice in town but it's site needs NOT be in a location that traffic can't be handled properly by the road conditions. If located anywhere near the center of town would probably bring very negative comments from planning board as well as police. This of course if my own opinion.

Is it safe to assume that you would prefer a Los pollos hermanos, or a laundry facility there?

Who ever locates at the ole R & T are going to as always have a serious problem with parking. That building is locked in between WCD and Mobile station.Where do you park?

Mr Norgard - how would the traffic to the AIA in that local be any different from that of the Mobil station and/or the gas station located directly across the street?
Robert Norgard February 07, 2014 at 12:20 PM
Their is NO way the police department or planning board would ever allow a car wash their because of a serious traffic backup toward the intersection of Church St. and route 20. The other issue is the town would more than likely NOT allow the traffic to enter or exit on the backside of R& T unto Church Street. Traffic having a redl ight at Church St. and route 20 would block exiting onto Church St from the car wash. That exit is far too close to route 20.

There have been suggestions that they are going to tear down R&T and build a chucky cheese. This will be fantastic as it will bring an immense revenue stream to Northboro and bring families to the Northboro Center.

If they do decide to use the vacant lot across the street for parking that would be possible. I would hate to see other ideas for that spot go to the wayside. When they close the chuck e cheeses in Worcester there will be lots of people looking for somewhere to let junior blow off some steam. I'm not too sure how I feel about this yet. Should know more after review of proposals.
