Sandy And The Outages: Your Power Updates

By 3 p.m., Hurricane Sandy started to knock out power in Northborough. Visit this page for updates specifically related to power outages and issues.

It was to be expected, no matter how much preparation occurred.

Hurricane Sandy has, and will, knock power out to many homes and businesses.

This page will bring you the latest on outages, and restorations, in Northborough.

On Tuesday, Oct. 30, there were still nearly 2,000 outages, according to the National Grid outage map.

According to the National Grid updated power outage map, nearly 800 have lost power by 6:30 p.m. Some are posting on social media outlets about power outages as well. Look below for Tweets and tips.

Update, 7:56 p.m.: There are 2,045 Northborough National Grid customers experiencing service interruption out of 6,559 total customers. That's 31 percent of the Northborough population. "We don’t have any crews out there after the wind gets up to over 30 miles per hour," said Charlotte McCormack, spokesperson. "We need to just let this storm pass. If this passes as predicted, we can get them out first thing in the morning and then dispatch to areas hardest hit. It’s damage assessment first, and then the dispatch."

Stats on the NGrid outage map page haven't moved all morning.....
Lynne Toomey October 30, 2012 at 03:24 PM
NGrid stats have moved...believe it or not...at 11:07 there was 23 outages and 2,505 customers affected and at 11:21 it was 17 outages and 2,148 customers affected....of course my power still isn't on and if I am lucky maybe by tomorrow as Pinehaven/Shadylane Ave. is always the last grid to be fixed!
Lynne Toomey October 30, 2012 at 03:34 PM
I just heard it could be 5 days or more before Northborough has power??? Major issues with the lines going towards Clinton???? Anyone know what is going on?
Charlene Arsenault October 30, 2012 at 03:43 PM
Guys - Northborough Patch is waiting for a spokesperson from National Grid to call back and we're going to find out as much as possible, and post it as soon as possible. As I'm sure some of you can see by the outage map on the Grid site, the number seems pretty consistent with last night. The Y in Westborough and Health and Racquet Club in Shrewsbury have opened their facilities to those without power.

PS - "there are no plans yet to cancel trick or treating" .... is the latest official word ... for those of you who are concerned.

Elizabeth October 30, 2012 at 03:48 PM
WAiting Charlene. Hope we get word before all devices lose power
Chris L. October 30, 2012 at 04:04 PM
I call shenanigans on that one. Most of us on the south side of Main St get power coming up 135 from Westboro.
Kevan October 30, 2012 at 04:04 PM
no power on woodstone. very frustrated. sick of this situation..3 times in just over a years time? anyone else think our power company should not be monopolized? why can't we plug into shrewsbury's power? anyone else not paying taxes on nov 1st because of this? join us.

Sandro Paz October 30, 2012 at 04:28 PM
Is there anywhere we can access electricity to charge phones?
jennifer shays October 30, 2012 at 04:34 PM

Kevan October 30, 2012 at 04:49 PM
i can't wait until the "we have power" comments come along. i keep checking the patch periodically to see if anyone has said it but clearly we are all without power still.
Kevan October 30, 2012 at 04:50 PM
also for anyone watching I drove around town this morning to see the damage and on Maynard street a huge tree came down on the power lines...could be a major reason why we are without power.
Lisa Marie Scalone October 30, 2012 at 04:50 PM
Don't you have a generator?
Liz Sullivan October 30, 2012 at 06:07 PM
Lynne, I am wondering where you see these numbers? The Nat'l Grid outage page still lists 5500 without power in Northborough
Lynne Toomey October 30, 2012 at 06:09 PM
Liz.....every time I log on to their website the number changes...and when you scroll in closer to Northborough on the outage page even that number changes!
Diane Parella Gaudette October 30, 2012 at 06:14 PM
With no street lights and no front house lights, trick or treating would be dangerous. They've got to seriously consider rescheduling to Friday or Saturday
Chris L. October 30, 2012 at 06:15 PM
Lynne, are you looking at a cached copy of NGrid's map from yesterday? your numbers aren't even close.........
Diane Parella Gaudette October 30, 2012 at 06:15 PM
Get a car charger - they work great
Lynne Toomey October 30, 2012 at 06:24 PM
I am looking at National Grid's Power Outage Map and then I click on outages by area and scroll in on Northborough and I get a flag with a number which currently shows 35 outages and 8,561 customers affected......Ii drove through town at lunch time and have yet to see a National Grid truck??
Liz Sullivan October 30, 2012 at 06:32 PM
The National Grid Outage Map has not changed in numbers and it has said " still assessing" for almost 12 hours.......I really don't understand how Northborough has the the most outages in all of Worcester county. After 5 days with no power last year we should have been 1st on the list this year.
Brian Northborough October 30, 2012 at 06:43 PM
This is why I bought a generator this summer...it cost $330 dollars and runs off propane...After losing all the food in the fridge/freezer 2x last year it's already paying off...all devices charged, movies on the laptop...
Chris L. October 30, 2012 at 06:44 PM
Sea Dog has posted on their FB page that they have power....post was at 2:41pm
Shannon O'Toole October 30, 2012 at 07:59 PM
After checking the status of the outage that I reported by logging onto the National Grid website yesterday, it's now saying that no outages have been reported at my address. Gosh, I hope that means I get to come home to a house with power!
Diane Parella Gaudette October 30, 2012 at 09:29 PM
Northgate neighborhood has power as of about 5pm
Charlene Arsenault October 30, 2012 at 09:35 PM
For anyone confused about the power outage map - plug in Northborough's zip (and then the arrow) and click on "summary" in the upper left corner. That will give you the latest outages, and it is updated every 15 minutes. As for restoration, Patch has another call in to National Grid for updates. We're trying to find out as much as we can!

Kevan October 31, 2012 at 02:33 AM
