Road Dawging It, Saturday at the Tavern

The Road Dawgs rock the Celtic Tavern on Saturday, May 19, hoping to save up for goggles and a sidecar for their drummer.

The Road Dawgs are a local cover band playing pop, classic rock and country from the '60s to today. The Dawgs play Saturday, May 19, at the

Northborough Patch talked with John Esposito, singer and bassist for the band.

Northborough Patch: So, what makes you Road Dawgs?
John Esposito: We started out as an edgy biker bar band. So the name was intended to reflect that fact. However, we have changed over our three years to  broader appeal. We even play family resteraunts now, but must change the lyrics, in some cases, to G rating.

NP: Who is the person in the band most likely to join a traveling motorcycle gang?
JE: Our drummer Rusty Metcalf sings all of our down and dirty southern rock tunes and is most likely to join a motorcycle gang. He doesn't own a bike, but his wife does. We're saving up for a goggles and a sidecar for him.

NP: What's a Road Dawgs set like?
JE: We are all about the best classic rock artists and songs that we can find that keep people dancing. Our List ranges from the '60s, with the Beatles and Stones, all the way thru to Carrie Underwood, Pink and Lady Gaga. With a female lead singer and two male lead singers we have the full vocal range covered from Johhny Cash to Journey.  Our song list is on our website  but what's really happening now for us  is our Facebook page. We post almost every day there and our events are most up to date there. OK, now the IPO can probably get $39 with that announcement.

NP: Funniest "Spinal Tap" moment?
JE: Opening for a puppet show?  I don't know—maybe having a comedy open mic open for us? That was kind of strange, but funny, too. John Paolilli's guitar has huge sustain ... you can hear it when you look at our band pictures.

NP: The band walks into a bar. Who's the most likely to pick up the check at the end?
JE: Our bass player, band leader, booking agent and roadie ... me. "He is so old compared to the rest of the band," said one of our members. "He really should be in the back smoking a cigar and counting his money, but we  let him play bass."
