Reliance Package Granted Alcohol License For Non Use

Reliance Beer and Wine at 293 West Main St. was granted a second extension of a non use of an alcohol license while owners work on a transfer of the business.

The non use was granted, but a new application will have to be filed after the new leasee takes ownership.

The license was postponed until Oct. 31. Lawyers for the owners said the lease was contingent on obtaining a liquor license.

Reliance has been closed since last July, when a fire caused substantial damage.

The continuation was granted after many questions, and confusion, from the board.

"It just makes no sense," said Selectman Jeff Amberson. "Whether we revoke it or grant an extension, they still have to reapply when there is a new leasee. The license doesn't automatically transfer over."

Amberson opposed.
