New Child Development Center Brings "Something Unique" to Area

A Growing Room is opening in Berlin, near the Northborough line.

In Bob Doiron's family, "I'm the goofy uncle, kind of a kid myself."

A new child development center that Doiron is opening in Berlin, near the Northborough line, seeks to bring "something unique" to the area, he says.

Doiron is opening a Growing Room. Sheree Mitchell, R.N., and her husband started the business, and opened the first child development center in the Columbus, Ga. area in August 1989, according to the Growing Room's website.

The Growing Room's daily goal "is to provide an enriching environment with nurturing teachers and a planned, developmentally-appropriate curriculum for all ages, beginning in infancy," the website notes.

Doiron's Growing Room franchise, at 71 River Road West, Berlin, will hold an open house from 10 a,m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 4, and a grand opening on Jan. 6.

Doiron says his kids, now eight and 10, were at a child care center years ago.

And while "it was a good place," his personality inspired him to start "looking into some options."

"I wanted to find something unique. I think the area deserves something a little bit different," says Doiron, who was in outside sales back then.

The Growing Room's curriculum, and state-of-the-art playground, were part of the company's appeal, he said during an open house on Saturday.

"There's not another center -- and I did a lot of research -- that offers everything that we offer here," Doiron said
