Discover Treasures at the Purple Rose

As with many New England towns, Northborough has its unique stores. Unusual items, trinkets and one-of-a-kind collectors pieces can be found in some of the shops that dot the main routes.

A resident of Northborough for 36 years, Vicki Martelli has been the owner of for 15 of those years. She had visions of opening a tea room in town, but her plans were changed due to the site not having town sewer. That change of plans has worked out very well, as The Purple Rose continues to grow since it opened.

The eight-room, two-story gift shop carries just about anything you can think of including dinnerware, bedding, bath and body products, items for the baby’s room, a card line, candles, Spartina pocketbooks, and Dash & Albert rugs.

“Items in the shop change all the time,” said Martelli. “You just never know what you will find. The merchandise is always changing.”

What separates The Purple Rose from other gift shops in the area? “We are known for buying the most different and unique items to sell, not the most popular.”
