Storm Knocks Out Power in Parts of Town: More Than 2,000 Without

Initial reports are that some areas of Northborough have lost power.

The thunderstorm that hit town today, Friday, claimed electricity in some areas.

Fire Captain Robert Theve confirmed that "we do have a couple of power outages in town, and the chief is out now assessing them."

According to the National Grid power outage map, Northborough reports more than 1,500 outages.

David Graves, spokesperson for National Grid, said that there are three main outages in town. An outage at Bearfoot Road and Whitney Street near the Berlin line has affected approximately 630 customers, and the cause is still undetermined.

Also, the storm downed a tree on Main Street that knocked out another 1,500 customers. Another "small number," said Graves, were affected by a traffic accident that occurred earlier in Westborough.

Readers have reported to Patch that the Northgate area was affected, as well as some neighborhoods near the Zeh School.

We are out again! Something about a lightning strike.

Yesterday's storm was not severe yet I lost power both last night and again this morning. After losing power for five days last fall my patience with power loss is over-I live in suburbia not some remote rural area with no access to services. Friends and family who live in other towns seldom or never lose power, so clearly there is a problem. National Grid needs to address whatever the problem of frequent power outages is in Northborough. How ironic that National Grid's office is here.

Its a little embarrassing that they can't take better care of customers in their own town. But there is no accountability. They can do whatever they like, charge whatever they want, and treat the customer as a secondary concern. Whatever happened to that bill going through Beacon Hill where they would be penalized and have to refund portions of our bills for poor recovery times?

Chris, I believe a bill was passed and it moved to the House...on that issue. That is a good question. Also, anyone still not have power today?
