Solvent Spill Evacuates Daycare

Hazmat reportedly responded to a spill at a daycare in Northborough.

Police scanner reports indicate that shortly after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, emergency responders headed to a building shared with a daycare in Northborough.

Hazmat teams responded to 172 Otis St., the building that shares space with Skribbles Daycare, to clean up a solvent spill, according to the report. The building was evacuated with emergency teams evaluating occupants.

According to police, an employee from Orlando Painting, which is located at the same address, spilled a relatively small amount of paint solvent. The fumes got into the Skribbles daycare, and staff called 911 to report that the staff and children were complaining of irritation from them.

The fire department evacuated the building until they could identify the the materal causing the irritation, and so that the air could be monitored, and also to ventilate the building.

Five police officers assisted the fire department with the security and relocation of the children at the daycare, and a school bus was provided to transport everyone to the other Northborough Skribbles location at 348 Main St.
