Gonk Jr. T-Hawk Wrestlers Take First at Central Mass. Tournament

Algonquin Youth Wrestlers competed in a team tournament last weekend and placed first.

Seven teams met on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Monty Tech, in Fitchburg, to battle it out for top honors in the Central Massachusetts Youth Wrestling League Tournament.  Towns and/or schools competing were: Algonquin (Northborough/ Southborough), Athol, Fitchburg, Littleton, Marlborough, Milford and Quabbin.  The Algonquin Youth Wrestling team took first place.

Individual winners at the League Tournament for Algonquin were:  Drew Cozzolino, First Place, Bryce Finnegan First Place, Shea Garrand, First Place, Sam Goldberg, First Place, Matt Cone, Second Place, Joe Vencille, Second Place, Mark Finnegan, Second Place, James Mahoney,second place, Andre Phillip, Third Place.

Grades 5–8 practice throughout the Commonwealth and participate in the MYWA (Massachusetts Youth Wrestling Association) Sectionals and State meets.  Sectional individual placements will be held on Feb. 3 in Wayland.  Qualifiers advance to the upcoming State Championship meet being held at Algonquin Regional High School on Feb. 17.   Set aside time to come support your community’s Youth Wrestling Program!

The Algonquin Youth Wrestling program also invites 4th – 8th graders to register for the upcoming Spring Youth Wrestling Clinic being held at the Algonquin High School Wrestling room beginning March 5 – April 11.  Registration is now open.
