Santa, Sinatra Shine Spotlight on First Parish Musicians

The church starts a concert series Friday night.

Music associated with Santa and Frank Sinatra will introduce the Northborough community to some local musicians Friday night.

"Santa to Sinatra: Jazz @ First Parish" will start a concert series at First Parish Northboro, Unitarian Universalist, member Dave Johnson said during an e-mail interview,

The concert at 7 p.m. Friday at First Parish, 40 Church St., features vocalist Steve Marvin with the Ed Harlow Quartet (Ed Harlow on saxophone, Chris Taylor on piano, Keala Kaumeheiwa on bass and Mark Holovnia on drums).

Tickets are $13 for adults, $25 per family and $10 for students, and includes sandwiches, snacks, desserts and juice.

"Our church has been fortunate to have incredible musical talent within our community," Johnson said.

"Our pianist Olga Rogach is another example. We thought it would be good to start showcasing the many talented people at First Parish. I asked Ed Harlow if he would create a concert series."

The series might have four parts, Johnson said.

Friday night's show will be a "'fun raiser' as opposed to a 'fund raiser,'" Johnson said.

"We guarantee the musicians a minimum flat fee. Members of our church will cook and prepare all the food. Any money left over after paying for the food goes directly to the musicians," he said.

"We do not want to make a profit from the concert, but do want to raise our profile in the community. We want to create a place for great music where musicians can showcase their talents and get paid."
