Want to Help Plan a 250th Anniversary?

Northborough turns 250 on Jan. 24, 2016, and selectmen are getting the party started. 

Selectmen voted Monday night to create an ad hoc committee of up to nine members to coordinate the anniversary celebration.

“I think it’s really important to get started, because we’ve only got three years,” Selectmen Vice Chairman Dawn Rand said. 

“To plan a party this big takes a while.”

The town was incorporated on Jan. 24, 1766, according to the town seal.

Town Administrator John Coderre said the administration took a preliminary look at similar celebrations elsewhere.

“As you would imagine, there is no one way to plan a party,” Coderre said.

He suggested, if selectmen were interested, starting with a nine-member committee to oversee the festivities.
