Northborough Police Mark Milestone on Dec. 1

Bill Toomey, who supervises Northborough's communications center, celebrated his 45th year of service.

"Dec. 1 was an important day in the Northborough Police Department," Police Chief Mark Leahy told selectmen Monday night.

Bill Toomey's Northborough public safety career began 45 years ago, Leahy said.

"Forty-five years is an amazing accomplishment," Leahy said.

"I personally really appreciate the dedication that Bill has shown to the people of the town of Northborough, and the service that he has given to the people of the town of Northborough."

Toomey was present with his wife Ginny and son Scott.

"Typically, the only time we seem to talk about somebody is we wait until they're retired," Leahy said.

"There aren't a lot of people that give 45 years of service to the community in the way Bill has."

Town officials and the audience gave Toomey a round of applause.
