Northborough Applefest Seeks Grand Marshall Nominations

Donations needed for annual fall event, too.

While it is July, and you’re probably not thinking about the upcoming fall season, there are some in your community who are, specifically, Northborough’s Applefest.

Michelle Gillespie, the Applefest Inc Commitee chairwoman, said committee members are busy raising money for the all-donation event, scheduled for mid-September, and is also looking for Applefest Grand Marshall nominations.

The Grand Marshall leads the parade, held on Saturday morning, and is often someone “who has done something for or in the community, through volunteering time, treasures, or talent,” according to Gillespie. The person not only leads the parade but is also highlighted throughout the weekend, she noted.

Organizers are also looking for donations to sustain the event, which is completely funded by donations.

According to Gillespie, about $30,000 is needed each year to keep the event running. The Saturday night fireworks, she noted, take up a good chunk of the money. Corporate and personal donations are accepted. The organization also sells ads in the guide and banners on Main Street.

“We’re not quite there yet,” she said about getting to $30,000. “We do need donations.”
