Northborough Among Towns to Open Up Public Trails on Old Aqueduct

Public trails along old aqueducts will thread through 14 communities and 40 miles.

Through open space areas in 14 communities, stretching from Clinton to Boston, plans are in the works to open public trails along old aqueducts, reported the Boston Globe.

Framingham already has a section that is open, and several other communities are in agreement to open soon along this 40-mile system.

The aqueducts, owned by the MWRA and "out-of-service," will have trail markers slowly replacing the "no trespassing signs," said the Globe, which added that the trails are meant for non-motorized use.

According to the map, trails through Northborough and Wellesley have permits "pending," while trails in Natick and Framingham have been issued permits. Newton, Weston and Wayland have "permits sent to the community," according to the Globe map.
