A mother and daughter volunteer team with Cooking Matters Massachusetts have been selected by Hannaford Supermarkets as “Hannaford Health Heroes” for their dedication to teaching Massachusetts families how to plan, purchase
and prepare healthy and affordable meals at home.

Millie and Laura Milton of Northborough lead parent-child teams in a six-week course designed to teach participants how to select nutritious and low-cost ingredients and prepare them in ways that provide the best nourishment possible. The mother-daughter pair, who recently graduated from culinary school together, volunteered over 40 hours to teaching parents and children how to make healthy and affordable meals through the classroom program.

The Miltons mark the 13th and 14th honorees in a series of awards from Hannaford supermarkets through the “Hannaford Health Hero” program, which recognizes the work of Massachusetts-based volunteers who inspire others within the community to make healthy choices for life.

“At Hannaford, we strongly believe in promoting health and wellness within the
communities we serve,” said Hannaford Supermarkets Community Relations Specialist Molly Tarleton. “We are thrilled to honor Millie and Laura as Hannaford Health Heroes and commend Cooking Matters for its commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles for all Massachusetts residents.”

In recognition of the organization’s commitment to health and wellness, Cooking Matters will receive a $500 Hannaford gift card. Millie and Laura Milton will also each receive a $50 Hannaford gift card.

The Miltons were nominated by Jessica Maillet of Cooking Matters Massachusetts, which empowers families at risk of hunger with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make healthy and affordable meals under the guidance of volunteer culinary and nutrition experts.

In the nomination letter, Maillet wrote, “the professionalism, knowledge and dedication that Laura and Millie brought to the program empowered the families participating in the class with the knowledge, skills and tools required to succeed.”

Hannaford Supermarkets operates 26 stores throughout the northeast and north-central corridors of Massachusetts.
