Local Historic District Study Committee Formed

The committee will consider only the Nieber property, which is the Peter Whitney Parsonage, which was built around 1780, according to town records.

A new local historic district study committee will explore the desirability of creating an historic district of one site: the Nieber property, at 62 Whitney St.

Northborough selectmen voted this week to create the committee of up to seven members, who will develop a report and recommendations for the spring town meeting.

The committee will consider only the Nieber property, which is the Peter Whitney Parsonage, which was built around 1780, according to town records.

Northborough needs the study committee because the town lacks an historic district commission,  Northborough Historical Commission Chairman Brian Smith said.

State law requires a district commission if the community has a district, he said.

The Northborough Historical Commission supports seeking spring town meeting approval to also serve as Northborough's historic district commission.
