Applefest Street Fair Could Return to Algonquin

The Rotary Club of Northborough, which organizes the street fair, is "leaning toward keeping it at Algonquin, but hasn't "made a final decision yet," Selectmen Chairman Leslie Rutan said Monday night.

The Applefest Street Fair might return to Algonquin Regional High School again next fall.

The Rotary Club of Northborough, which organizes the street fair, is "leaning toward keeping it at Algonquin, but hasn't "made a final decision yet," Selectmen Chairman Leslie Rutan said Monday night.

Rutan said Rotarian Skip Doyle left her a voicemail updating her on the Rotarians' discussion of the issue.

The street fair moved from downtown to Algonquin in 2012 due to road work. The street fair was held at the high school again in 2013.

This fall, selectmen sent a letter to the Rotarians, "telling them, basically, that we had heard from residents" that "it was important for the street fair to be downtown, getting back to, really, the core reason why the street fair was started to begin with, which was to attract people to the downtown area," Rutan said.

"I just want to make sure that everything is considered very, very carefully. And we as a board, I think, have an obligation to the people in our community and to the people that do business in our community to make sure that we're doing the best thing for them," she said.

"I don't want it to be a done deal until we feel that we have what we can to represent the businesses in our town."
