Major Triathlon Just Around the Corner and Down the Street

The 4th Annual Westborough Sprint Triathlon starts at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 at Westborough State Hospital, off Lyman Street.

The Rotary Club of Westborough is partnering with Sun Multisport Events and the Central One Federal Credit Union on the fundraiser. Part of each registration fee will be donated to the American Diabetes Association. Registration fee information can be found here.  A printable poster and photos from previous events may be found on the club website. Just click here:

The 2012 triathlon drew about 370 entrants. Organizers hope for 425 to 450 this year.

The triathlon will consist of a .25-mile swim in Lake Chauncy, a 14-mile bike loop through the Boroughs, and a three-mile run that includes the lake’s wooded trails, some of which are in Northborough..

A new "Splash and Dash" option allows entrants to do just the .25-mile swim and the three-mile run.

An “off-road triathlon” is the other new option. These entrants will do a five- to six-mile off-road bike course on the trails around the lake, rather than the main bike route.

Teams can enter the triathlon, with one person doing the swim, another the bike, etc.

Volunteers are needed for the event.  Interested community members should e-mail Jim O’Connor at jo72149@verizon.net.

The event sponsors are: Grace Bicycles, Westboro Tennis and Swim Club, Grafton Suburban Credit Union, YMCA, Roche Bros., PR Running, Curry Printing, South County Physical Therapy, and Commerce Bank.
