Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
An easy turn off Route 20, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Wayside Inn and Grist Mill in Sudbury are a delightful step back in time only minutes from your doorstep.  Easy street-side parking off Wayside Inn Road leads to the mill and many walking trails beyond. The mill is open for visitors to explore Wednesday through Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April through November. Grinding demonstrations are held mostly on the weekends. For other venturing ideas, we've chosen two places in Upton: Fox 4 Paintball and Upton State Park. Click on the videos to check out these wonderful options.
As with many New England towns, Northborough has its unique stores. Unusual items, trinkets and one-of-a-kind collectors pieces can be found in some of the shops that dot the main routes. In this Patch Passport, we focus on The Purple Rose. A resident of Northborough for 36 years, Vicki Martelli has been the owner of The Purple Rose for 15 of those years. She had visions of opening a tea room in town, but her plans were changed due to the site not having town sewer. That change of plans has worked out very well, as The Purple Rose continues to grow since it opened. The eight-room, two-story …
Nestled on the second floor of 290 West Main St. sits the New Leaf Salon and Spa, one of this small town's best kept secrets. Enter the building, grab an elevator ride to the second floor, and feel the transformation begin. Quickly, you will recognize the fresh, natural scents of eucalyptus, clean linen and lavender. Your eye will naturally be drawn to the overwhelming array of herbal teas on the tea bar and the music will slowly seep into your exhausted pores. "Our philosophy is simple," said co-owner Laurie Filiere. "Treat people with integrity and care for them as you would wish to be …
Story submitted by Robert P. Ellis of the Northborough Historical Society.Could the brick building at 10 School St. be called the most historical building still standing in Northborough? Isn’t the house at 312 Church St., for example, more historical? There at a meeting in 1744 one section of Westborough (itself a former part of the earlier town of Marlborough) was formally designated as that town’s new North Precinct. This decision led to the independence of the precinct in 1766 and the status of Town of Northborough in 1775.Probably only the Town Hall, which burned in 1985, however, held …
Four seasons and plenty of places to go, right in your own backyard. Northborough values its families, and with a family comes kids, and they're looking for something to do. Here are some kid-friendly places to go and things to do in Northborough. Tougas Farm: It's got a petting zoo, a super-sized playground, and a field where you can pick your own fruit. Plus lots of snacks, including ice cream. That's certainly a recipe for kid fun. This family owned establishment added a barnyard which houses goats, potbelly pigs and a duck pond. The playground, geared toward elementary age kids, includes …
Queen Bead and Gifts: Originally located across the street (before it burned to the ground along with several other businesses, the result of arson), Queen Bead at 300 West Main St. is a unique little gem — pun intended — in town. The store features classes and parties, but more importantly, an unusual selection of jewelry, Russian nesting dolls, cell phone charms, rare gems and plenty of beaded items. It's a great place to host your child's birthday party, as the partygoers can create their own jewelry. Obviously this is just a suggested hidden gem in town, and we know there are many. Surely…
