Information courtesy of Chibing Liu Northborough's Henry Liu, who is 10, won a gold medal in the Advanced Division Kumite and bronze medal in Advanced Division Kata at the 2012 USA National Karate Tournament, which was held in July in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Both medals were earned after going through strenuous and intensive competition. This is the second time Liu won medals from USA Karate National Tournament since he earned his first Kumite gold medal in 2009. Submitted by Allison Epstein, Pan-Mass Challenge On Aug. 4 and 5, 16 residents from Northborough pedal their way into fundraising history as participants in the 33rd annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC), the nation’s pioneer charity bike-a-thon that raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country.  They join 5,500 cyclists who ride with the collective goal of raising $36 million to support adult and pediatric cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund.  PMC riders range in age from 13 to 88. Submitted by Katarina Wrin Nikki Wrin led a talented North All Star team to a 16-5 win over the South at the Harry Agganis Girls Lacrosse All Star classic Thursday night at the Manning Bowl in Lynn. Agganis was a multisport star at Boston University who turned down an offer to play professional football for the Cleveland Browns so he could play for the hometown Boston Red Sox. Agganis's career ended in tragedy when he died from a pulmonary embolism at the young age of 27. Wrin scored nine goals, dished out three assists and received the game's MVP trophy. Conor Healy, senior at Algonquin Regional High School, was voted as the top C-Mass All-American for 2012 along with four other C-Mass players who also received this highly-regarded US Lacrosse Award."Conor is the most coach-able player that I have had since I took over the program in 2007," said his coach Rich Luongo. "He is a team player and always sets the example for all of the athletes in the program. Now a senior at Algonquin Regional High School, O'Connell plays soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She recently signed a letter of intent, officially committing to the University of Oregon on a lacrosse scholarship. Favorite career athletic moment: Winning the Central Mass. Finals last year in basketball against our rivals Shrewsbury, because we were the underdogs.
