Friday, June 8, is the 223rd anniversary of the introduction of the Bill of Rights in Congress.
Also on Friday at noon, tens of thousands of citizens gather all across the country in protest of the HHS mandate that directly attacks Catholic beliefs and teachings. Under President Obama’s direction and his health care law, religious employers will be forced to provide free contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs in their health plans.
But this is not just a Catholic issue. It is bigger than that. It is the president’s attack on the First Amendment of the Constitution. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
If we let the HHS mandate stand which religious liberty will go next? If we let the HHS mandate stand which freedom will go next? Will it be freedom of speech, assembly or the press? And then which of the next 9 Amendments of the Bill of Rights will we be lost? Historically, nations of good people have been overcome by series of small, seemingly unimportant changes or rules which at the end amount to servitude and dictatorship. Stand up for religious freedom now. Please attend a rally near you.
The local rally will be held on Friday, June 8, at noon on the Worcester City Hall Plaza, 455 Main Street, Worcester. I hope to see you there. If Worcester is too far, to find your closest rally please see www.StandUpRally.com.

Oh get real, this is utter nonsense. 1st off it targets ALL health plans offered buy all company’s NOT just those of religious companys/corporations/backgrounds/ownership.
If we look at it another way, because if worked for a Catholic faith owned business this means “their” beliefs mandate what my insurance covers or not, How is that any different.
What this bill is about is offering EVERYONE regardless of their faith the same options.
The louder someone screams this is an attack on Catholics, I see their protesting of this as a forcing their beliefs on me and the nation and I invoke the constitution and MY freedom of religion to NOT allow them to control what health insurance covers or not.
All men/women are created equal and are due the same rights, as is their insurance coverage should be equal across the nation. An individual should decide if they exercise the option in their insurance or not an employer or religious faith.

MainSt.....it has to do with force. If you do not like the coverage at your place of employment....leave....you are free to do so as a free American. Like wise if you do not want to, or feel comfortable working for, a Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, or Martian company....don't it is your choice. On the other hand.....a law which violates the Constitution allows no choice or recource for those who do not wish to endorse/fund/provide funding for abotions. To be clear Catholics are not trying to force anything on others....only trying to follow their beliefs.....would you be so offended if the outcry came from a Muslim church....I kinda doubt it. And in regards to the Constitution.....with a capital C.....insurance is not a right. I find it funny how you are OK with the government forcing something upon someone, while talking of freedom of religion, but not a church when it's members are members by choice.

Just because its mandated as an option does not mean a person has to use it, but in your argument its not an option,
The same should be offered to all, if a user does not want to use birth control they dont have to, but to be denied it because its against a work places religious belief. Sorry that “forced religious views" in my book. The people should have a choice.
For the same reason you cant put out a help wanted sign and say Christians need not apply, companys should not be allowed to say we exclude that from our insurance because it violets our beliefs.
You thing this wont be used to the extreme? Why wouldn’t say Christian scientist claim medicine and medical treatment is against our religion therefore we no longer offer any insurance to our employee’s
If you don’t like it, they can all quit right?

Your logic follows the same path as those who declare a Republican War on Women. Sorry, but this a a lie spun by liberals inorder to garnish votes. No one is trying to stop a woman's access to bithcontrol or woman's services....it is simply Un-Constitutional to have others pay for it. If you want to go to town and go to town....by all means....just not on my dime.

Not at all....they can stay and stay on the insurance, they can stay and get their own insurance, or they can leave. This is an example of choice which is not present in obama's health care law. BTW....your logic games....while amusing....are not founded in reality....in much the same way as liberal policies are not.

BTW....."my way or they highway".....isn't that what obama and pelosi said when passing the law. Choose a side, love and follow the Constitution or move to Cuba, be for freedom or against it, either way I don't care....just choose a point of view and stick with it.

SCOTUS is probably going to render much, if not all, of this conversation moot in a few months.
I'm sure Romney's camp is already preparing to blast Obama on no wins in domestic policy during his term. You can argue the bailout of the auto industry was a win. But the economy as a whole? same, at best.
If SCOTUS strikes down health care, Obama's major win becomes OBL. And he's already played that card in commercials.

This is ridiculous. Contraceptives are widely accepted and used by Catholics. The healthcare mandate was already amended so that religious employers who chose to do not have to foot the costs.

Just because the insurance will cover something doesnt mean you have to use it, its there as an option for those that wish to.. The my way or the highway attitude of if they dont like the offerings they can quit is borderline redneck mentality. equal insurance coverage across the board is a must.

MainSt.....so the highway is bad if it's in reference to your opinion, but it's good if in reference to forcing a group to kill unborn children. It's also good if obama and pelosi are directing the show. OK....now I understand where you are comming from. And please....continue your cowardly attempts at name calling....I would prefer you came right out and said what you implied.....however I know you are not man/woman enough.....only tough enough to slur people based on their beliefs and slaughter unborn children. Bravo.....

Contraceptives are also referring largely to condoms and other methods of birth control such as the pill - which, unless you have a large family (a la the Duggars), you've probably used. Or gotten a hysterectomy/vasectomy which are also methods of birth control. No one is forcing anyone to have abortions, and your definition of "unborn children" is highly debated.
PREDATOR

Hannah....you are also correct....I have used condoms....however, and here is the point you are missing, I did not ask my neighbor to pay for them. You are also correct in abortions are not being forced.....however, once again citizens are being forced to pay for them for other people. These are of course the same people who asked their neighbors to pay for condoms and were rejected. You can debate what a fetus is all day long as far as I am concerned, it is not germane to this issue of government intrusion and big government. I do suppose that these abortions will keep roving gangs of teenagers from wandering off the ball field though. "once the fields open it will be filled with teenagers who could potentially cross into the neighborhood and vandalize and do who knows what"- Hannah Abbott

Those comments are completely unrelated and you have now mentioned them in both conversations. I do not support abortion; I support the ability for women to make choices. Our opinions clearly differ on both topics but that shouldn't give rise to you making flagrantly false and immature remarks and I would appreciate it if you stopped, "PREDATOR"

PREDATOR, I am really impressed by your use of ellipses - they really add to your statements. None of my comments mention supporting abortions, yet yours draw upon the false idea that I believe abortions to be an effective tool in eliminating "roving gangs of teenagers." I'm not the one making up lies and pulling other discussions into this one.

First and foremost, the first amendment to the Constitution of the United States is NOT intended to be freedom of religion. Rather it is to establish and codify our freedom FROM religion. The United States of America is not, and was never intended to be, a Christian nation. Believe what you like, you do not have the right to impose your superstitions on the rest of us.

Bob....thank you for agreeing with and helping me make my point. The Constitution is there to prevent things being imposed on citizens be it religion, anti- religion, or intusive government regulation. This includes social justice, healthcare, gia green garbage, athiesm, Christianity, Islam, etc. Therefore the government has no place taxing for, dispersing funds for, or requiring insurance coverage for abortions.
