So here we are again—another January and another set of New Year's resolutions including the number one resolution, which is to lose weight and get healthy.
Unfortunately, this resolution usually does not last long. The greatest reason for this is people look at exercise as a chore, something that they dread to do instead of something they love to do. As a chiropractor in the community, I am always encouraging my patients to "just move!" It does not have to be anything too intense, but I always say that "motion is your best friend."
This year at my studio we started a new class called Zumba Tone. Believe me, this takes your Zumba class to the next level, and anyone can do it! Zumba Tone is still the great dancing Zumba class that you love, but kicks it up a notch by adding lightweight toning sticks or dumbbells.
Incorporating this will emphasize muscle work along with rhythms, a combination that provides your cardio workout as well as resistive exercise providing a total workout in one hour while having a blast doing it. Zumba toning is exhilarating, different, challenging and effective and provides an avenue to getting into fantastic shape without getting bored.
The overall benefits of dance and weights in the same workout are:
Improved cardiovascular endurance
Improved overall muscular endurance
Improved bone density, prevention of osteoporosis
Improved joint mobility and range of motion
Improved posture, coordination and agility
Increased caloric expenditure-weight management of weight loss
Zumba Tone is on Monday nights at 5:30 p.m. at YogaPlus Studio, six-week sessions for $45 or you can drop in and pay $14 per class.
