Warm Winter May Open Juniper Early

Golf courses across New England are either open, or opening earlier due to unseasonably warm winter weather.

The lack of snow has been bad news for ski resorts and hardware stores, but great news for ice cream shops, farms and golf courses.

Some golf resorts in New England managed to stay open all year this year due to the unseasonably warm winter, such as Blissful Meadows Golf Club in Uxbridge, reported NECN.com. And others are planning on opening earlier than usual, including right here in Northborough.

Juniper Hill, which encompasses two 18-hole courses, closed for the season on Christmas Eve Day, but will "probably open back up on March 15," according to Rita Cappello, outing coordinator.

"Oh, people are definitely calling to ask if we're open," said Cappello. "We've gotten a lot of calls, especially with no snow. Sometimes, we’ve opened in March and had to close again. There are a lot of courses that never close and people have been playing them most of the winter. There are some diehards who play all year."

Last year, Juniper Hill opened on April 1.
