Road Rage Incident Heads to Pretrial in August

Police charged a pair with assault after getting into an argument with another driver.

A Marlborough woman and a Hudson man have been charged with assault and disorderly conduct after a December incident that occurred near a stop sign at BJ's at Northborough Crossing.

Yvette Diaz, 47, of 113 Elm St., Apt. 1, Marlborough, and Thomas Rivera, 33, 8 Felton St., Apt. 1, Hudson, were summonsed to court on an April 11 complaint by Northborough police and charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct.

According to the police report, Diaz and Rivera got into a disagreement with a driver at a stop sign near BJ’s in Northborough Crossing. The driver honked his horn at the pair. Diaz and Rivera then followed the driver to a parking spot and allegedly got into a physical altercation.

Diaz is accused of pulling the hair of a passenger in the car and scratching her face. Rivera is accused of punching the driver and the passenger of the car in the face several times.

Judge Vito Virzi ordered both to have no contact with their alleged victims, and they are scheduled for a pretrial hearing on Aug. 9.

50% of the police report is now involved with the new shops. I think we needed to hire 3 or more new police officers for this? Is this mall a revenue plus or minus for this town? I miss the small town I grew up in. Now, my kids instead of riding their bike down to the Candle factory are going to want rides to the mall. It's not the "end of the world", but like many others, I miss the simplicity of small town life.

Its a revenue plus. Once the property tax and sales tax revenue is added up, its easily a plus.

But yes, there are some things being sacrificed in the name of increased tax base.

At least its on the edge of town and not shoehorned into the already crowded downtown area.

Now if we can get the town to operate more efficiently and stop spending as if cash grows on trees....maybe the homeowners can get some tax relief year after year.

Oh yes. We do need three new police officers. However, the board selectman thinks that these big developments make money for the town. They do not realize the extra cost for services, increased town t6raffic, and the potential reduction of home prices will have on the town’s bottom line. The BOS and town administrator are just thinking in the short term.

The problem lies with the flat tax rate of Northborough. If they would split it up and charge higher Commercial rates than Residential, they would be able to offset more of the costs of the increased level of services needed.

Umm .... can someone explain to me how 3 more police officers would have stopped this from happening? I do agree more officers are needed but this does not make that case unless they trail everyone leaving the mall or any other place for that matter. Ohh wait, that is what the new drones will be doing soon enough in our free skies

Chris, ask Worcester how a dual tax rate has worked for them. Fastest way to drive business out of town is by putting in a dual rate.

Seems a limited government and low taxes across the board would benefit all.

Ask smaller towns how its worked out. Look at Ayer, for example. Granted, their square area is much smaller, nut their residents pay less than 1/2 the commercial rate, and they seem to have some bigger business there(Pepsi bottling plant, CAINS(mayo, etc), Prince Spaghetti, VItaSoy....

Businesses are leaving Worcester because its Worcester...the tax rate makes a more convenient excuse without having to hurt anyone's feelings.

where's the Mall security?
just like the indoor malls, have version of "Mall cops" wheres the mall security at in times like this, I seem to always see the white truck and it's little yellow lights paked near EMS or some out of the way place, Why isnt the Mall/Shopping plaza dealing with the trafic thats on "PRIVATE" land. sure 911 is needed now and then, but with all the private propery signs they have hanging up, its time for them to step up and be held acountable to keep shoppers safe, its NOT the tax payers duty. If they cant control traffic and provide a safe area for the public, just like any other business, they need to be shut down!

That is correct. People are leaving Worcester because it is Worcester. The city’s demographics are not ideal for business. Ask Target on Lincoln about the theft problems they are having. The city is also hard to get in and out of from the suburbs. Northborough’s businesses expect a much higher level of service from the town. The people in the town have to put up with increased traffic, increase crime rates, and increase road maintenance. The tax rate should be split.

To be able to lessen the tax burden on the homeowners, while being able to at least maintain, if not improve, local infrastructure needed to support the influx of business, it would be a good idea for the BOS to begin exploring implementing a split tax rate, with a phased-in implementation. Northborough is NOT Worcester, so that analogy was well off the mark. With access to 20, 290, and 495, plus a rail spur, Northborough is a great spot for more high-tech/light industry.

My main concern if there were to be more commercial and/or retail would be obviously the traffic flow. I don't think anyone's best interests would be served if every street in town looked like Main Street currently does at 5:30 on any given weekday afternoon.
