Ms. Carrie and the Kids: Music to Their Ears [VIDEO]

Ms. Carrie performs regularly at the Northborough Free Library. The singer-songwriter performs and records music for all ages, but really has a way with the kids.

Kids like to rock out, too. And to local youngsters, Ms. Carrie's hitting big on the charts.

Carrie "Ms. Carrie" Rowan is a singer-songwriter from Northborough, and also records and performs music for the grown-ups, but has carved a niche in the area by appealing to those who are still waiting for their baby teeth to fall out.

Rowan performs all over the area, but is a regular at the Northborough Free Library, putting on a show there about once a month. With her acoustic and singing voice, she runs through classics — Ms. Carrie style — such as "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" and "Five Little Monkeys" but also has children's originals such as "The Bee Song," "Catch a Bubble" and "My Body is an Instrument" (which is not even remotely reminiscent of John Mayer's "Your Body is a Wonderland.").

"I love performing for kids because they are so open and receptive to everything," said Rowan. "I think the trick to getting them to respond is to find a way to tie into their joyful nature yourself....to be having as much fun as they are.  It also takes a little crowd reading to see what songs they really get into. And as you can imagine, they really like when things keep moving."

Rowan even gets comments from the kids that her shows "make them tired."

That is probably appealing to the parents, too.

Ms. Carrie has a "big" children's concert on May 12 at 1 p.m. at the Steeple Coffeehouse in Southborough's Pilgrim Church. Check the Northborough Patch calendar for upcoming library shows.
