Making Blankets With Project Linus

A local group put together more than 60 blankets for needy children.

Last weekend was Make a Blanket Day, on Feb. 18. Instituted by Project Linus, a national organization that works to provide handmake blankets to seriously ill and traumatized children, groups got together across the country to take part in the effort.

Every year, Lisa Hodge, local volunteer, mom and software enginner, coordinates townies as host to the Project Linus blanket making session. With no skills required, 19 people were at Hodge's house, eating, drinking and together "no sew blankets" for the cause.

"My daughter, who is 7, was there for a bit helping the women tie their blankets," said Hodge. "We had a lot of new people. It was really fun. I have 61 blankets in hand. I have a bunch of commitments, so there is a good chance I will make it to 100. We need to keep spreading the word."
