Hutchins' State of the Seat Address
He submits it but once a year; to our hearts, we hold it dear.
The following is the "State of the Seat," which Selectman Aaron Hutchins delivers annually at a Board of Selectmen meeting.
My friends, my neigbors,
You’re in for a treat.
It’s time once again,
For the State of My Seat.
First came Menino,
Followed by Patrick.
Fine’ly the President,
(That’s hardly a hat trick.)
But now it’s my turn
So let’s be honest,
I’m the only pol’tic’an
To make good on a promise.
I said that I’d serve.
I said that I’d learn.
I said that I’d honor
The trust that I earn.
The time has now come
After year number two,
For me to detail
Just what I did do.
I appointed and
Passed, issued and granted,
Licenses, Deeds, and
Cheered trees that were planted.
I held hearings in
Public, sessions in secret,
Went to Boards, Committees,
And Farnsworth’s retirem’nt.
Indian Meadows,
The Annu’l Town Meeting,
Brigham Street zoning,
To town wide cleaning.
I marched; I questioned;
I observed and approved.
I even discussed
What signs to remove.
From B.Y.O.B.
To belly dancing,
To those Eagle Scouts,
Whose praises I sing.
From budgets to pinwheels,
Applefest and pledging,
Citizen petitions to,
Priority legislating.
Or banquets and meals to
Downtown construction,
The Phantom Gourmet,
And state aid reduction.
Now hold your applause,
I’m quite nearly through,
This annu’l reporting
I’m making to you.
Just one final note
Before I complete,
This landmark address
I call “State of My Seat.”
My effort is constant
My devotion, consistent,
My commitment to you,
As always, persistent.
And so I acknowledge,
Proclaim and declare,
The Town of Northborough
Is more than just fair.
It’s great; and I say
Without reservation,
If you want a comparison,
Just ask our Dan Nason.
