Fall Family Fun is Waiting for You
Applefest weekend, the Big E, apples and pumpkins. It's fall so time to head out there with the family and enjoy it!
It’s getting dark earlier, it’s cooler in the evening, and school is back in session. These are sure signs that fall is upon us.
Just because summer is ending, your family fun never has to stop. Here are some fun fall things in the area to do:
Applefest Weekend: Northborough’s annual Applefest festivities will be in full gear starting on Friday, Sept. 16 through Sunday, Sept. 18. It’s a jammed packed weekend including an Animal Adventures Show on Friday night at Melican Middle School starting at 6 p.m. and sponsored by Northborough elementary schools' PTOs. The Greater Northborough Has Talent Show will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at Algonquin High School. Saturday’s highlights include a 5K race, vendor fair, parade, apple pie, and a book sale at the Northborough Library. Starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, Ellsworth Park on Route 135/South Street is where you should be as the festivities continue with a concert and BBQ and plenty of fun activities. Finish your day at The Church of Nativity for an outdoor family showing of the popular kids' movie Cars starting at 7:30 p.m. The full schedule of events for the entire weekend can be found on the official website.
Apple Picking: Many local farms have many apple varieties ready for picking. Tougas Farms includes a hay ride out to the orchards, petting zoo, playground and kitchen. Prices start at $18 to pick a peck and this allows three people onto the orchard. Another option is Honey Pot Hill Farm in Stowe. Use this quick guide to find other orchards in the area
Pumpkin Picking/Kids Classes: Pumpkin patches are waiting for you already due to the great pumpkin weather conditions we have had this season. Looking for a new pumpkin patch? Try Fat Moon at Meadowbrook Farm, 5 Gould Rd. in Westford. They do have limited hours, so be sure to contact them for the schedule. Fat Moon also holds some great playgroups and classes for young kids this fall.
Sturbridge Village: Kids ages 17 and under receive free admission to Sturbridge Village with a paid adult admission during the remaining weekends in September. Click here for more information and events for those weekends
The Big E: The Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield begins on Sept. 16 and runs through Oct. 2 and will easily keep your family entertained all day long. You are sure to find various other fairs to attend in the state at this site.
Star Gazing Party: The Skylight Astronomical Society, Inc. will be holding its semi-annual free Star Party at the historic Wayside Inn in Sudbury. Join them anytime between dusk and 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. Be sure to check their website or call 978-568-0326 for more information and updates.
Hiking and Biking: Fall is the perfect time to explore the many hiking and biking trails in the area as a family. Don’t forget that Northborough has several great trails a few steps from your back door. More info on those trails can be found here.
It doesn't matter what you do this fall, just do it as a family and enjoy it!
