Elizabeth Warren and the Ancestry Issue: What Do You Think? [Poll]

Democratic contender for U.S. Senate seat reportedly acknowledges she told schools of her heritage, but after she was hired.

After weeks of controversy, Elizabeth Warren tells the Boston Globe that yes, she told Harvard and University of Pennsylvania about her Native American ancestry, but says it came up after she was already hired.

What do you think about her actions, how she handled the controversy — and most of all, if or how much that should figure into your vote this fall for either Warren (or her Democratic colleague in the race, Marisa DeFranco) or Republican Sen. Scott Brown?

Tell us by voting in the poll, or be more specific and articulate in the comments section below. As always, we'd love to hear from you.

    • What is the big deal? Scott Brown is milking this and she did absolutely nothing wrong.

    • She gamed the academy's diversity efforts.

Why is their no choice answer of "She is a liar and can't be trusted"? So she told Harvard AFTER she was hired? So Harvard never checked out her status/resume with Penn before they hired her? So I guess she told Univ. Penn she was Indian after Harvard hired her. Come on, she is dishonest. She's been dodging this issue for a month hoping it would go away and it's not because it is a major CHARACTER issue and she has failed.

between that, the fact that she claims to be the "intellectual mother" of the Occupy movement, her Escape hybrid fiasco, the fact she makes $750K/yr from Hahvuhd and still claims to be about the little guy....

no, she can't be trusted.

I think giving people preferential treatment due to their ancestry, color, marital status, handicap or whatever is out of line.
We all all Americans. If you want the job do the work and qualify for it.
If you are not qualified, no job. End of story.

Linda....it is very refreshing to here someone speak of equality rather than social justice for a change. Thank you.

If she just answered it in the first place, it wouldn't be such an issue. She is pretty stupid to have let this get so far and way to go Gov. Patrick, you look just as stupid.

It's not an argument, this is the real campaign. This woman, and other liberals like her, proclaim to be smarter and more moral than the rest of us "regular" people. They feel we need to be under their control because we cannot manage our own lives. Yet, infact, they are more needy than we are. Live free or die.

The issue is NOT whether she is a Cherokee or not. The issue is that by all measures, she appears to have attempted to game the system by claiming she was Native American. Her refusal to provide any documentation to the contrary, to continually stonewall anyone who asks about the subject, and now to claim that these are unfair questions, leads anyone with an unbiased opinion to conclude that she has something to hide. This is not about ethnicity or lineage, it is about INTEGRITY, and Warren is giving every indication that she is severely lacking in that department.

The campaign is about the economy, national security, and the direction of our country. It's not something about what her father told her when she was little or what happened in college. This is an attempt by the right wing to distract people attention. Otherwise let's start talking about Scott Brown's nude photo shoot in playgirl magazine.

Life long -Its about INTEGRITY! She is showing a severe lack of it. Brown never denied his pic in Cosmo. Warren on the other hand has evaded, stonewalled, avoided, diverted (pick your favorite verb) the subject of whether or not she gamed the system. She may think we don't care, she's wrong, we do!
By refusing to address the voters questions, she is convincing the majority that she has something to hide.

Based on Mitts record in high school, Mitt Romney is not for to be president let alone even in the race for president.

So Warren's apparent lying about her "Native American heritage" are OK in your viewpoint because Romney picked on a gay kid in high school. Explain the logic to us.

Ok then, Let's talk about the large amounts of campaign money Scott Brown is getting from Wall St financial institutions and oil companies. Like he is really going to vote in the interest of Massachusetts residents. Ya right!!!

How about all the campaign money Lizzie is getting from out of state?

You still refuse to address the issue of Warren and her supposed Cherokee ancestry. Actually, you sound quite a bit like her press conferences, the only thing missing is Deval to do the actual speaking for you 8*)!

This issue is from a long time ago. She has already addressed the issue several times. This is a non issue that has nothing to do with the Senate. Now the money Scott is receiving does have relevance on how he is going to vote. The issue of her ancestry has nothing top do with this campaign. Now you sound like like Rush L.

Life Long.....would you care to elaborate on the money Lizzy is recieving......from the very same circles? Keep in mind she worked for the "evil" insurance industry and please dn't forget her role as the grandmother of the Occupy Urine Soaked Places Movement. The grand issue here is of self-determination and freedom. Lizzy supports goverment involement in all facets of our lives while Scott Brown favors limited government and personal liberty. I guess it's a mater of fear on your part.....if you feel the need to be protected from all forms of harm and guided through life.....then Lizzy and the liberals are the party for you. If you prefer freedom and liberty.....and embrace risk and reward....then Scott Brown is your man. It's is really very simple....the American way or socialism. Just look to the USSR and the failing European Union for your answers. Live free or die.

Life Long -- You and I agree that "The issue of her ancestry has nothing to do with this campaign." What does have relevance is whether or not she lied about that ancestry. I don't care if she is part Martian, what I do care about is that she not lie about it, especially if it is for personal gain!

Lets look at Warren as _she_ describes herself.
1) Cherokee ancestry. (But refuses to provide _any_ thing to substantiate the claim). No independent source has been able to substantiate her claim.
2) Called herself the first woman to take the bar examine while breast feeding. This claim is based on what? Lawyer friends of mine say they must have missed the "breast feeding" check off box on the application. Pure BS on her part.
3) Calls herself "the intellectual mother of the Occupy movement". Great, just what I want for a Senator.

Face it, she is not an honest person and has repeatedly tried to mislead the public with some pretty outrageous statements. The real question is what else is she misleading us about?
