Building a Healthy Northborough Gets New Website

The new initiative for the town has a sharp new website.

New initiative. New website. Good health.

The Building a Healthy Northborough initiative began in 2008 as a collaboration between various officials from town, including the Health Agent Jamie Terry, Town Planner Kathy Joubert, Director of Family Youth Services June David-Fors and Director of Recreations Allie Lane.

In January, Building a Healthy Northborough launched its new website, which the organization has been building for the past four months.

Since its inception, the team has expanded to include representatives from family and Youth Services, Northborough's Extended Day Program and the coorination team from JSI Research and Training.

"Building a Healthy Northborough also regularly partners with Northborough school prinicipals, the food service director, school wellness committee members and neighborhood restaurants," said Nicolette Strauss, Building a Healthy Northborough team member. "The website was developed as a collaboration between all these players."

The initiative is to create healthy activity and physical activity opportunities for kids and their families in their area through programs, policies, systems and environmental changes in town. Some initiatives that have already taken place are the institution of as well as taking a new look at the smoking policy in town. Presently, Northborough is also taking part in the Ex-Smokers Hall of Fame program.

"The website is meant to be a resource for the community," said Strauss, "offering information about efforts in Northborough to promote healthy lifestyles, providing resources to support individual’s healthy eating and active living efforts, and highlighting local events that focus on healthy living. We will add content to the website and update information on an on-going basis."
