Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Alex Uliasz has been building his DJ business since he was eight years old.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Instead of the latest toys or electronic gadgets, Alex typically asks for stereo equipment for birthdays and holidays. As young as eight years old, he used his Christmas money to start adding pieces to what is now his own DJ business.

Debby Uliasz, Alex’s mother, commented that even as a young kid, "Alex would take old radios and put them back together. This has always been an interest for him." He even built his own speaker enclosures with the help of his dad.

Since sixth grade, Alex started to work bigger, public events such as pool parties, birthday parties, graduation parties and school dance parties. His fees are based on the event and the length of the time he is working. His referrals are typically word of mouth although he said creating a website is something he should think about.

The business equipment Alex already owns is quite impressive. He has "a bubble machine, different lights, fog machine, professional DJ mixer, four speakers, an amplifier and audio equipment. I’m trying to expand on my lighting collection; it makes your performance better," he noted.

When purchasing new equipment, Debby said he definitely does his research.

Alex’s music collection is a good mix, and any song he doesn’t have but is requested from a client, he can easily download from iTunes.

"Everyone has a different personality, so everything changes from one event to another," he explained about the music he plays at functions.

Although right now he concentrates his efforts on playing the music, he said "I’m trying to practice more of the MC piece."

"It’s a definite niche for him," Debby added.

Alex can be reached at 508-393-0137 or by email.
