Northborough #2 Team Wins 12YO Northborough Invitational

  • July 24, 2012

On Sunday night, the Northborough #2 team edged Southborough 7-5 in the championship game of the Northborough 12YO Invitational baseball tournament. Northborough jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on three home runs—solo shots from John Polymeros and Kevin Reale and a two run blast from Jose Baez—that proved to be too much for Southborough to overcome in a very well played and exciting game.

The Northborough # 2 team got a stellar pitching performance from Nathan Anderson who allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings and a great defensive effort from the entire team to hold off a very talented Southborough team.

Jose Baez hit another two run home run in the third inning to stretch the lead to 6-3. Southborough battled back with two runs, including a solo home run by Matt Petry, to close the gap to6-5. Erik Coupe added an insurance run in the top of the sixth for Northborough after reaching third base with heads-up base running following a perfectly placed bunt. The gloves of infielders Nathan Rosa, Mark Polymeros and Chris Lyons in the late innings were key to protecting the narrow lead. Ethan Ash took the mound in relief of Anderson to close with the final two outs of the game.

The Northborough #2 team was unbeaten, winning all four of their tournament games. Andy and Patrick Robbins contributed to the team's two victories in the pool play round.

Members of the team are: Nathan Anderson, Ethan Ash, Jose Baez, Eric Coupe, Chris Lyons, John Polymeros, Mark Polymeros, Kevin Reale, Andy Robbins, Patrick Robbins and Nathan Rosa. The team was coached by Mike Reale, Steve Anderson, Dave Robbins, Dominick Rosa & Bill Lyons.
